A flexible, translucent material for realistic medical models with complex internal channels and lifelike soft-tissue behavior.

GelMatrix™ is an advanced PolyJet™ photopolymer developed by Stratasys as a core component of its Digital Anatomy™ materials ecosystem. It is a soft, gel-like material designed to be digitally blended with other materials, such as Agilus30™, to create models that accurately mimic the mechanical properties of human tissue. Its primary technical differentiator is its function as both a modeling material and an easily removable gel-like support, enabling the creation of intricate, hollow structures like blood vessels and other complex anatomical features.
The primary performance characteristic of GelMatrix™ is its ability to replicate the feel and behavior of soft, damp tissues. When used in Digital Anatomy presets for organs like the liver or subcutaneous fat, it provides unparalleled haptic feedback for surgical simulation. Its translucency also allows for clear visualization of internal structures, which is critical for educational models and pre-operative planning.
One of the most significant challenges in creating complex medical models is clearing support material from small, convoluted internal pathways. GelMatrix™ is formulated for simple, clean removal with a water jet, even from micro-diameter channels. This ensures that the final model maintains its dimensional accuracy and functional integrity, which is essential for applications like fluid flow analysis or medical device deployment testing.
GelMatrix™ is exclusively compatible with Stratasys Digital Anatomy™ 3D printers. It is printed using either High Mix or High Speed modes and requires SUP706 as the external support material. To ensure proper curing and prevent burning the delicate material, it is recommended to use only one UV lamp during the printing process. This careful processing preserves the fine features and intended mechanical properties of the final anatomical model.
This material serves critical functions across the medical product lifecycle. For medical device engineers, GelMatrix™ enables the creation of highly accurate anatomical testbeds for prototyping and validating new instruments. In clinical settings, it is used to produce patient-specific models for surgical planning and rehearsal, helping to improve outcomes. For educational institutions, it provides a safe, reusable, and realistic alternative for training the next generation of healthcare professionals.
