Choose the task worth improving

Start with a recurring operation that needs a better tool: positioning a badge, supporting a component during assembly, organising a repeated task, or protecting an exposed interface. Record the current method and the practical problem. A manufacturing aid should make a defined operation easier to carry out consistently.

Separate function from convenience

Review access, grip, clearance, part-contact surfaces and tool identification with the people who will use it. Check loads, temperature, cleaning agents and wear. Electrical or contamination-sensitive environments require a specific assessment; a material label alone is not evidence that the finished tool meets the requirement.

Match material and process

FDM can support custom polymer aids whose geometry and service conditions suit the process. F370CR and Fortus 450mc are starting points for comparing different material routes, not interchangeable recommendations. Include inserts, assembly and inspection in the manufacturing plan. Jigs and fixtures that locate or guide a part need an explicit datum and repeatability review.

Trial the aid in its actual workflow

Evaluate a representative tool with the workpiece and operator. Record fit, handling, wear and any effect on the operation before wider use. Keep the approved CAD revision and the manufacturing instructions together so replacements reproduce the reviewed design.
